RDS Licence Server Installation and Activation

If you want to use your Windows Server via Remote Desktop Services (RDS), it is important to define the respective role service. Your license server must be installed and activated which you usually do in Microsoft VLSC yourself.

For used software purchased from VENDOSOFT GmbH, we carry out the process of the RDS license server installation and activation with Microsoft and provide you with the key assigned to your license server ID.

Please follow the instructions for installing and activating the license server and then provide us with your license server ID!

Installing the Remote Desktop Licensing Role:

1. Sign into the server you want to use as the license server using your administrator account.
2. In Server Manager, click Roles Summary, and then click Add Roles.
   Click Next on the first page of the roles wizard.
3. Select Remote Desktop Services, and confirm with Next. Then click Next again on the Remote Desktop Services page.
4. Select Remote Desktop Licensing, and then click Next.
5. Configure the domain – select Configure a discovery scope for this license server, click this domain, and then click Next.
   Click Install.

Your license server is now installed and must be activated.

Activating the License Server:

1. Open the Remote Desktop Licensing Manager: Click Start > Administrative Tools > Remote Desktop Services > Remote Desktop Licensing Manager.
2. Right-click the license server, and then click Activate Server.
3. Click Next on the welcome page.
4. For the connection method, select ‘Automatic connection’ (default), and then click Next.
5. Enter your company information (your name, the company name, your geographic region), and then click Next.
6. Optionally enter any other company information (for example, email and company addresses), and then click Next.
7. Make sure that Start Install Licenses Wizard now is not selected (we’ll install the RDS licenses in a later step), and then click Next.

Your license server has now generated a unique system-related license server ID.

Sending your license server ID to VENDOSOFT:

Please copy the displayed license server ID and send it to info@vendosoft.eu quoting your invoice number.
Please do not send a screenshot to avoid any errors!

We will initiate the RDS-CAL assignment with Microsoft using the license server ID you provide.
You will then receive a key for activating your RDS access licenses in an updated key document.

Once you have received the key from VENDOSOFT:

• Right-click the relevant RDS server in the RDS wizard, 
• Select Properties > Connection method > Telephone connection (“automatic connection” is generally set by default) and click OK or Next to confirm.
• Then select the country in which the relevant RDS server is situated > click OK or Next to confirm.
• Select “Install licences” in the RDS licensing manager

The seven-character input field for your RDS key provided by VENDOSOFT is now displayed. Please enter the key here and confirm!

Please note:

The license server ID changes as soon as you reactivate the affected Windows Server (e.g. after a hardware change). RDS access must then be assigned to the current license server ID.

If you do this, let us know and send us the current license server ID!
We will carry out the process for you again and send you a new RDS key for your current RDS access.
